Make Money With Carpentry/Woodwork

If you think you have to be a professional carpenter in order to make money with carpentry, you're wrong. There are 5 general ways you can make some extra money with carpentry without quitting your normal job.

1. The Amateur Woodworker Method

This method contains only 2 steps:
  1. Building the item
  2. Selling the item
The pros of this method are, that you don't have to take any risks, your costs are low, you can be your own boss, and you probably won't have to pay any taxes, if you do it small. The cons are that you have to do all the work by yourself, and if you don't have good plans for items (like Woodworking4Home plans and projects), you could go wrong with your products. Obviously, you won't get rich with this scheme either.

2. The Wholesale Dealer Method

This method basically means that you try to buy the products from various carpenters, who use method number 1, and then resell the goods for a profit. The pros of this method are, that you don't have to do any carpentry yourself, if you don't want to, and that you can make a bigger buck that way, compared to method number 1. This is, if you do it right... On the other hand, there is a bigger chance of failing and losing your money, if you're not the "salesman" type.

3. The Restoration Method

If you have been doing carpentry/woodworking for some time, and are well-skilled, you will probably be eligible to use this method. It is basically the same as the "Amateur Woodworker Method," but is better paid and requires more skills. People who can restore old objects are wanted, and professionals are always well paid.

4. The Business Method

Yes, I stated in the first paragraph that you can keep your normal job. And you're probably thinking: "Well obviously I can't keep my usual job when I start a business!" And you're probably right. Unless you hire someone else to run the business for you. So this method is still eligible to be in this article, I think. You probably already know what this is about. Start a company. Hire workers. Rent a room. Produce your product. Transport your product. Sell your product. Just like this method is in this list with a little twist, you have to be that "special" person to really succeed in this business. It is the most risky of them all, yet probably the most profitable, if done right.

5. Create!

Make a website about carpentry. Or a blog (this is my method, you know...). Or an ebook. Or a movie. Or a board game! The opportunities are endless, and if you succeed it is possible for you to make a decent buck with them. The only limit is your own imagination, so don't be afraid to use it!

So there you have it! 5 real ways to make money with carpentry. You're welcome to discuss this article in the comments section. Also, check out the magnificent Woodworking4Home offer, a must-have for every woodworker!
